A few years ago, Ed (Dado) found himself without a coffee table. He knew he wanted a piece that was interesting and reflective of his creative side. He was discussing this with his long- time friend, Andrew (AP), and they decided with Andrew’s welding and art background, they would make one. They went to the scrap yard and found inspiration in some cool pieces to incorporate into a coffee table. Later, when they relaxing in Ed’s living room, Andrew kept admiring the coffee table and said “Damn, I want one too”. Thus, AP Dado began!
I have been retired from teaching art to elementary school students since 2017. I now paint pastels, makes sculptures of steel and wood with my friend Edward and in my free time, I like to camp, kayak, ride my motorcycle and bake sourdough bread. I love to cook too as baking bread is so primitive. I think it takes me back to my roots from long ago; flour, water and salt….basic, yet so much in it.
I am a Reiki master level practitioner and serve as a volunteer for LifeSparknow.org providing Reiki sessions to individuals dealing with cancer. Energy…basic yet so much more. I graduated from the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico with a degree in Theology. While there, a buddy showed me how to use the potters wheel. I still throw pots, and love the creativity that comes so quickly just out of basic clay and my hands. In 1986 I decided that I wanted to teach what I love, art. I went back to school at Metro State University in Denver and received my degree in Art, along with a teaching certificate. I took at least two of every class/media offered. This has helped me to have some confidence in trying new things. Steel…cutting, welding, grinding, shaping, forming, balancing, the look of it, the smell of it, the feel of it…..OH I love this medium. Steel and wood….basic but so MANY possibilities! |
I had a great period of discovery while
I was a modern dancer and choreographer. Space, my physical space, was my workshop. I then moved into lighting for theatre and dance, Once again defining space, this time through light and shadows. Through a fortunate connection I discovered filmmaking. Cameras, lights and movement gave me a new direction. later a desire for a new coffee table found me asking my long time friend, Andrew, to help me create one, our journey with steel, wood and stone began. We continue to discover new forms of static movement, new uses within space, within these sculptures. We are AP Dado. |
